Why not go to church?
Why not take time to move beyond oneself
to join others in praising God?
Why not go to church?
Why not frame moments of prayer
in a symbolic environment.
Why not go to church?
Are there not enough personal
and societal concerns
impinging on your life or the life of others
—family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, partners—
to give the witness of care?
Divine Creator,
I bow before you for your myriad
and marvelous creation
and all the mysteries of nature,
especially the human person.
Word and Wisdom of God,
I long to hear your Word to me.
Dynamic Spirit,
I need your wise impulses
to live the fullness of life
and most meaningful days
for myself and others.
Amen.
