Theologians work to help our faith

seek understanding. 

Theologians remind us

to bring our faith tradition and teachings

to meet the context of today

and the signs of the times.

Theologians help us use theology as a light

for illuminating the realities of today.

Let us pray for knowledge, understanding,

and wisdom in applying our faith

authentically to this time and this place.

Amen.

Let us not apply old answers to new questions.

It is not helpful for theologizing to “reduce itself

to a form of intellectual archaeology,

digging into the past to revive ancient ideas.”*
