Someone suggested a wild image of the Divine
as pulling her hair out over the slaying
of one human being by another.
Given this numbing and horrid reality,
we can imagine the Divine
lamenting each and every violent death.
Imagine God saying: I created you out of love
for the purpose of love.
I gave you a resemblance of me,
even identified with you.*
I beg you to do everything you can
to offer loving kindness
not vengeance or retaliation but
mercy — mercy — mercy.
Amen.
